Work With Me!

About this Service

I am an accreditied therapist and have been counselling adults and young people for 5 years. Before this I taught for 18 years and left because I yearned for the time and space to support students with repeated patterns of problematic behaviour. This lead me to qualify in counselling adults and young people. Having my own therapy during my 2 year diploma cemented my belief in the healing value of a good therapeutic relationship. After leaving my employment as a student counsellor I have begun online private therapy for adults and young people, to continue my professional practice as well as manage my caring roles. I hope to provide clients with a safe, empathic and non-judgemental space to explore their experiences and be actively heard and understood. I would hope to faciliate clients in gaining greater awareness and understanding which fosters increased self-compassion (and we all need some of that)! I view the therapeutic relationship as a ‘we’ – I offer my authentic self as a co-worker and one who recognises that I’m not the expert on another’s life but rather a facilitator – offering my reflections, observations and questions to aid their own processing and promoting positive change. I feel that working with all aspects of troubling experience – the thoughts, feelings, behaviours and sensory aspects provides a full picture from which key areas to work on emerge. As new research has highlighted effective approaches I have incorporated these and as a result my own approach, whilst person-centred and experiential at the core, draws on a range of theories: attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, cognitive behavioural tools, internal family systems, mindfulness, along with sensorimotor and polyvagal theory. My clients find the way of working that suits them. I like to signpost my clients to high quality and evidence-based resources related to their particular concerns and we would have regular reviews to discuss the levels of satisfaction with the therapy. I am humbled by the courage it takes to embark on therapy and always recall my own beginning!
The aim of this therapy is to provide you with the opportunity to explore personal issues in a confidential and safe environment.
As an accredited member, I will maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Ethical Framework for Good Practice of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (see www.bacp.cp.uk) and according to the GDPR regulations laid down by the ICO (www.ico.org.uk). I have annual safeguarding training in accordance with Working Together to Safeguard Children: Working together to safeguard children – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).

I receive regular supervision from a qualified supervisor, in accordance with my professional code of ethics, to enhance the service I provide to you. Supervision maintains the same standards of confidentiality.
Exceptions to confidentiality:
1. If you threaten to harm yourself or another person. I would discuss any disclosure with you first wherever possible, but if serious harm was likely I would contact relevant services.
2. If a court order instructed a disclosure of information
3. If there was a legal obligation to breach confidentiality, e.g. Prevention of Terrorism Act, Drug Trafficking Act.
I sincerely hope this information has given you a sense of my background, my professionalism and my therapeutic approach. Due to my slow typing speed I would offer a better service over live call or video rather than live chat.
