About this Service
I am in my mid 50’s, British and registered to the Main Professional Association in the UK which is the BACP (also Accredited). I work with individuals from age 18 upwards and have 9 years experience as a therapist in Private practice as well as the Charitable sector and an Employment Assistance Program supporting Employees of various companies and workplaces.
I am here to kindly and mindfully help and support you to work through your personal challenges, in order for you to move forward and make any beneficial changes. I aim to help you alleviate any suffering wherever possible and see this as a very important part of the therapy. I will always consult you on your wishes/ aims, attentively listening, as your wishes, thoughts and feelings take priority. We can talk about past, present and/or future as you wish, all these aspects can be important. I regard our work together as a collaborative working alliance where I am facilitating you to explore and travel where ever you need to go, in the therapeutic process.
My main approach is Person Centred, I also have knowledge of other modalities such as Solution focussed and CBT techniques. I can offer a tailor made pluralistic service, developed with the unique person in mind. I have experience of working with many issues including anxiety and depression, severe trauma such as sexual abuse, rape, domestic violence, also bereavement, anger, family issues, addiction and work/ career related issues. Please do not feel that any of your issues are too minor or small (or too great for that matter) to work with. It may be that you are experiencing low mood and not know why or perhaps you feel you could be happier and want to explore this. Our feelings and emotional being are important and informative.
I have not always been a Counsellor. I used to work as a Teacher in education with children, including special needs pupils in Schools and Colleges. My interest in Psychology, including my own self development grew and I gradually, through doing part time courses and much hard work, became a qualified Counsellor. I regard myself as highly empathic/ sensitive and have learned to tune in to peoples wavelengths especially when counselling. I also have valuable experience of navigating motherhood and have a grown up daughter.
My belief is, as human beings, we are all inherently respect worthy, as everyone has immense potential to create extraordinary value and benefit, for themselves and others. I am a Buddhist and have utmost respect for others choices regarding their beliefs and have worked successfully with people who possess different beliefs and religions.
My own past experiences of mental health challenges and not so good counselling as a client, have positively informed my counselling practice. I can say with hand on heart that I have proudly overcome some truly painful areas of my life. This gives me profound hope for others to overcome their unhappiness, transforming their life in the process.
